UCLA (Falk Lieder; Rational Altruism Lab). The Rational Altruism Lab at UCLA has open positions for Ph.D. students motivated to conduct rigorous empirical, theoretical, and computational research in psychology with a high positive social impact. Possible topics include rationality and decision-making, goal-setting and motivation, as well as value change and the learning mechanisms that change how people think and decide. Our projects will range from fundamental basic research to developing and evaluating digital interventions. Our mission is to help lay the scientific foundations for fostering and supporting the effective pursuit of highly impactful altruistic projects. This includes research on understanding and improving goal-setting and decision-making, motivation, moral values and moral reasoning, rationality, and associated learning processes. Applicants with a background in psychology, economics, cognitive science, computer science, mathematics, statistics, ML/AI, education, HCI, or a related discipline are welcome.
